Three day uluru itinerary

Every year more than 250,000 tourists from all over the world visit this remarkable place. Before planning our Australian road trip we knew this was one of those places we could not miss. Here is all you need to know when visiting this iconic Australian destination.

Before you visit:

You will need to obtain an Uluru-Kata Tjuta park pass online from the Parks Australia website. A three-day pass is $38.00 per person.

Please note this is an extremely sacred site and there are parts of Uluru that cannot be videoed or photographed, please observe all signage and abide by park rules when visiting. Start your holiday at the information centre and Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to support the local community and deepen your understanding of the importance of Uluru.

Day one:

We arrived at Uluru in the afternoon and decided to complete the base walk. The 10km trail takes you right up close to the incredible rock, winding under trees, and opportunities to view rock art. At the time we were lucky enough to see multiple waterfalls flowing over the towering rock and wildflowers in bloom.

Be sure to pack a hat and water as half of the walk is in the sun.

Following our base walk, we drove straight to the sunset viewing area ready for sunset.

Day two:

The Valley of the Winds hike is one not to be missed. It allows you to get up close to the towering Kata Tjuta’s domes. The 8km walk can be challenging as there are steep inclines and strong headwinds (the walk definitely lives up to its name) but the views are absolutely worth it.

If you still have some energy after the hike call into Walpa Gorge and complete the beautiful 2.6km walk which takes you between the two tallest domes within the Olgas.

After spending the morning hiking visit Yulara town centre for a coffee or refreshing drink and stroll around the stores.

Day three:

Spend the morning mingling with some of Yulara’s cutest locals at the camel farm where you can meet baby camel Sofie and calves, chickens, kangaroos and plenty of other camels. There is interesting history of camels in Australia and unique memorabilia on display.

Other noteworthy activities:

Helicopter flight over Uluru

Dine under the stars at the sounds of silence

Field of lights

Sunrise or sunset camel tour

Segway or bike ride around the base of Uluru

Be sure to add on a few days to your itinerary to explore Kings Canyon
