The Camp Chair We Never Knew We Needed: The Happy Chap Chair

When you spend as much time on the road as we do, camping, beach-hopping, or setting up by a fire, you start to realise just how much of a difference a good chair makes.

We’ve been through a fair few over the years. Some were okay, most were average, and a couple were just plain painful. So when we got our hands on the Happy Chap Chair, we honestly weren’t expecting much.

But after a few trips with them, we realised… we might’ve finally found the one.

From First Sit, We Were Sold!

These chairs come out of the box ready to go, no setup drama, no instructions needed. You just unfold them, drop in, and that’s it.

We first took them on a coastal camping trip, then to a bush camp, and even just used them out in the backyard one arvo. No matter where we were, they felt so good to sit in. Relaxed, supportive, and a bit like one of those gravity-style loungers, minus the bulk.

They’ve quickly become part of our standard kit.

What We Love About the Happy Chap Chair

Lightweight & No-Fuss to Carry

They’re surprisingly light, just under 3 kg, which makes a big difference when your hands are already full. We've carried them across campgrounds, down to the beach, even up a bit of a hill to catch sunset, and it was no trouble at all.

Setting up is just as easy. Open, click, done. No fiddling or figuring things out. We’ve had heavier, “fancier” chairs in the past that were an absolute pain to lug around. These are the opposite.

Comfort That Genuinely Surprised Us

It’s rare to find a camping chair that’s actually comfortable. This one nails it.

The fabric hangs more like a hammock, so it moulds to your body instead of digging into your back or legs. And the padded headrest? It’s the perfect spot for a nap, which we’ve both accidentally had more than once.

Even after hours sitting around the fire or just chilling under a tree, we never felt stiff or sore. That alone puts it ahead of every other chair we’ve used.

It’s Built to Take a Beating

You can tell it’s made with quality materials. Happy Chap puts their chairs through proper testing , pressure, impact, wear and tear, and it shows.

We've tossed ours in the back of the ute, left them out in salt air and sun, and they’ve still held up like new. No rust, no sag, no tears.

It’s the kind of gear you don’t have to stress about looking after, which, let’s be real, is what we all want when we’re travelling.

Cup Holders: Small Thing, Big Win

We didn’t think cup holders would make such a difference, but turns out, they do.

They’re detachable and you can clip them on either side, depending on what works best for your setup. No more trying to balance a drink on a log or in the dirt. And when you're packing up, they tuck away into a stash pocket behind the headrest.

Simple, useful, and it’s one less thing to think about.

They Look Bloody Good, Too

One thing we didn’t expect to care about? The colours.

But honestly, these chairs look great. The colour options are clean and low-key; olive, sand, blue, lilac and they just work with any setup. Whether we’re camping by the beach or just lounging in the yard, they don’t stick out or clash.

A few mates have commented on how good they look and we’ve got to agree.

Cleaning’s a Breeze

We’ve had camp chairs that soak up every bit of dust, sand, and sunscreen and never look the same again. Not these.

A quick hose-off or wipe-down, and they’re good to go. The fabric is made to handle the elements, and the aluminium frame means no rust or weird squeaky joints after a bit of weather.

It’s that kind of easy-care gear that makes camping feel a little less like work.

Our Favourite Chair Moments So Far

  • Beachside mornings: feet in the sand, coffee in hand, sun coming up.

  • Post-hike arvo nap: didn’t mean to fall asleep… but the headrest had other ideas.

  • Campfire chats: everyone else shifting in their chairs, we stayed put until the last bit of wood burned down.

  • Spontaneous stops: pulled over on a long drive, popped the chairs out, and made a moment out of it.

Final Thoughts

We’ve tried our fair share of camping chairs. Most of them get used for a trip or two before something breaks, they start to sag, or they just don’t feel great to sit in for long.

The Happy Chap Chair has quickly become the one we actually look forward to using. It’s light, comfy, easy to live with, and fits right in with our travel style.

We reckon you’ll be just as stoked with them as we are.
